This journey began with Barney, my son's pony. My son had decided riding was too scary, so Barney needed a job and I thought that maybe if I could drive him, I could keep him working. Not that I had any experience at all driving.

Theo, my dressage mount, was also supposed to have some driving experience so when I found a trainer (Paul Maye), I opted to work with both of them.

Driving can be tricky, and just because someone says a horse can drive doesn't mean that it is safe to just hitch up and go. We approached Theo's first lessons as if he didn't know anything. That means ground driving and a very cautious introduction to a cart. That is what you see here.

There were a few sessions like this before I got to drive.
